ECHOES OF SILENCE

In Listening to the Earth (SS24) I explored the notion of silence in a very loud world and was taking note of the fact that it is isappearing. Silence is defined by acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton as the sound of the Earth - the trees, the rivers, the insects, the birds, etc. - minus the noise of human activities. It is on the verge of extinction.

For the AW24 collection, Echoes of Silence, I wanted to continue looking at the power of silence which is so essential to every aspect of human and animal life. Today, wherever we are, we are surrounded not only by outside noise, but also by the silent noise of technology and social media. The noise they create inside of us is robbing us of true silence and distracting us from a peaceful moment without distractions.

For this new collection, I have worked with the lush pastoral wool from nomads tending to their sheep at the foot of the Himalayas in a symbiotic relationship with nature. Humble scraps of cotton and Lenzing satin modal from the studio are transformed into a beautiful new fabric, incredibly soft to the touch, like a luxurious tweed. The frog becomes a beautiful princess. A simple 100% cotton lace dress mutates into the most sensual garment. Blac denim turns into elegant pants in their simplicity with a twist. I have also tried new techniques: hand fagotted seams where you can delicately see through; zero waste patterns a technique which minimizes wastes.
